Second Chances

The Failed Alchemist Part II or The Second Butterfly Arrives

The alchemist felt the anger replaced with a moment of weariness. If only he could conjure some black magic. It would swirl over the village and all souls would be in awe of his great powers. The Alchemist only wished he had become a dark wizard. Then he would make them pay. He tried to remember what they had done to him. Too long ago, to say how it started. He wanted to touch the source of his anger, but only succeeded in feeling it again. His anger rose in him like an old friend, and destroyed the village in his waking dream…..

Music filled his home. Next door they were dancing and singing the night away. The anger of the Alchemist was his only companion. Nurtured and grown in his heart like a plant in a broken jar. It spilled into the room like a separate entity.

The alchemist looked at the stars that lit the sky. If those fools only knew, how many strange experiments had moved amongst them before they faded like the dying butterfly? A butterfly flew into the dusty room. He made his decision……..

The Failed Alchemist or Unrequited Anger

The alchemist trudged slowly through the crowded hallway to his laboratory. With a sigh, he looked at another failed experiment.  He felt like shaking his fist at the world.

Laughter drifted in from an open window. He seethed with the indignity. Someday he would make them pay. The passing students felt a hot breeze,  as they passed the overgrown home of their unknown enemy.

The alchemist reached gently for the still living butterfly and tossed its wingless body outside..

Do I Hear Cowbells?

Click the above links because you can!

Early on in the Blogstream Six of  “Venus Vexed” and “Needs More Cowbell” came up with one of her classic lines.  Six said…”Anything can happen on a night like this.”  It’s been at least seven months and that line is stuck in my head.  Timing is everything. Serendipity and kismet rule here.  Hearts and minds are revealed and changed. If we had a motto for the magic of the stream I believe it would be Six’s words.

I have stolen Six’s line many times. I will probably steal it again.  Thanks Six!

A War Grows or Wage Peace

I know [patriotism] exists, and I know it has done much in the present contest. But a great and lasting war can never be supported on this principle alone. It must be aided by a prospect of interest, or some reward.” George Washington  (American commander in chief of the colonial armies in the American Revolution (1775-83) and subsequently 1st US President (1789-97), 1732-1799

“I am not only a pacifist but a militant pacifist. I am willing to fight for peace. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.”

Albert Einstein quotes (German born American Physicist who developed the special and general theories of relativity. Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921. 1879-1955)

“War is when the government tells you who the bad guy is. Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.”

Unknown

“What vast additions to the conveniences and comforts of living might mankind have acquired, if the money spent in wars had been employed in works of public utility; what an extension of agriculture even to the tops of our mountains; what rivers rendered navigable, or joined by canals; what bridges, aqueducts, new roads, and other public works, edifices, and improvements might not have been obtained by spending those millions in doing good, which in the last war have been spent in doing mischief.”

Benjamin Franklin quotes (American Statesman, Scientist, Philosopher, Printer, Writer and Inventor. 1706-1790)

A nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then it is done, no matter how brave its warriors or strong its weapons.”

    Cheyenne Proverb quotes

“If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.”

Mahatma Gandhi quotes (Indian Philosopher, internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest, 1869-1948)

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”

Mother Teresa of Calcutta quotes (Albanian born Indian Missionary and Founder of the Order of the Missionaries of Charity. Nobel Prize for Peace in 1979. 1910-1997)
