Tarot cards handed down from ancient times are said to possess guidance and divination truths. To me they are a spiritual tool, not for the reader, but for the truth seeker. Every reading is a snapshot of a given moment. As events unfold, the snapshots change, but there is a common thread that connects them. The tarot is not really a “fortune telling” vehicle, it is a ritual that was designed by ancient mystics for use in seeking ones higher self.
LAYOUT
The Celtic cross is the oldest known tarot layout. It came originally, from Ireland. I use a version of the Celtic cross called the “Gypsy Spread” or the Spiders Web.
Simple and familiar... Like the faces on a deck of playing cards it is the symbolism that creates the power of the tarot.
Sometimes it is the familiar that keeps the reading flowing. If someone recognizes themselves or sees their situation in what the reader sees then the reading may be of some value to them.
The Celtic cross is divided into two sections:
The Circle/Cross on the left, and the Staff on the right are the basic components. . The circle and cross symbolize the joining of spirit and the earth. It symbolizes the unity of all events in time. The feminine energy of the circular section works in unison with the masculine energy of the Staff section. This layout represents the dual nature of the human spirit. It is the hub around which the wheel of life is turning.
The larger cross consists of two lines that overlay. The horizontal line shows time moving from the past on the left into the future on the right. The vertical line is consciousness moving from the unconscious (from the bottom to the top).
I always read the layout as past (bottom) present (center) and future (right and staff). It is the cards on the right that represent opportunities and challenges.
If no future is set in concrete and the purpose of a reading is to lead to an Inner Guide….the guidance about yourself and others, your life lessons and your future direction are shown in the Staff (right).
MINOR ARCANA (ELEMENTS OR SUITS)
Wands (Air) - Ideas, communication, thoughts, enlightenment, concepts
Swords (Fire) - Power, motivation, action, force, conflict
Cups (Water) - Emotions, feeling, compassion, language of Spirit
Pentacles or Plates (Earth) – Material or physical expression in the world
THE READER: I have read the tarot cards since I was 19. My very gifted cousin taught me. I do not have the gift. I have had years of fun reading cards for friends and family…..And 6 dark months, in 1992, reading for profit in my spare time for PRN.
Not being a medium or a gifted fortuneteller, but I still enjoy reading the cards. Often my interpretations are off base….I always hope that the truth seeker receives some insight or even gets a laugh from the reading.
SAMPLE READING 1….MALE
Your reading is in the swords. To me that means that the element most defining the reading is what is going on with you now. Power, Action, Force, Conflict
This is a time of decision and change. Your past foundation is built on major events that reshaped your entire life. The Magician as a foundation means you need to acknowledge your gifts, and tap onto new energy sources.
In the past, you have depended on the values of others. The X of Cups means that in the last few weeks some of the influences you have relied on are fading. You are stronger and more secure in your own home than you were. You are letting go of the past and embracing the present…..There is some fear involved in this process.
Above your head and Present….You are having trouble sleeping (IV Swords) You may be worrying too much...Try to remember your fears are worse than the realities.
You are in the midst of great changes. In the present, there is a strong water sign man influence the King of Cups. The watersign man was once jealous of you…he is better now,,,,he may need your help he is a close friend or adviser… and covering the present is the Temperence card. This is a card of balance and sometimes indicates spiritual development or a quest finished. Everything in moderation to weather these changes….and this may be the advise your friend needs as well…
In summary your future cards
Page of Swords There is a younger man….potentially someone who works in a gym. I think he is finally agreeing with something that he has been resistant to….I usually don’t have upside down cards in a reading….but I left this because I think this young man is going to be closer to you the next few weeks and that he has just been “defeated’ in some way….At least 2 people will come to you for aid or support in the next 2 weeks.
Within a month (and it looks work related) I see additional positives surrounding you. A new employee or boss will be wonderful…definite fire sign tendencies…more laughter.
Within 2 months…I see more money coming into your household…check on investments or old collections…check with your Dad. Are his knees OK.
Within a 3 month period I believe you will be resolving some old issues that may go all the way back to childhood…..In positive constructive ways…let go of the past…regardless the changes will have taken place by this time anyway...already.
You will be saying no to things you were saying yes to…..New optimism and hope and unexpected sources of income will develop. Depends on how fast your life moves but usually this is a period of less than 5 months out. You will have a dispute over money with someone you trusted. You will feel he has “gone behind your back” these issues will be resolved by a third party.
This is a time period where lots of people are close around you. Your Dad is a special influence. You will be turning towards new avenues spiritually and letting go of old resentments….Good reading and a very good time for you in your life. Lots of changes….good changes!
